This week marks our 4th Annual District Elementary Student Art Exhibit. My colleagues and I set up the exhibit on March 19, 2012. My school will host a reception on March 22 from 6-8pm.
We display over 2,000 pieces of art from all three buildings. Our goal is to represent as many students as possible spanning K-6 in each building. This is a difficult task considering we have a combined enrollment that nears 3,000 students. We spend an entire day hanging the work and have one half day to take it all down and return it to our respective schools. The Center for Student Creativity hosts our beautiful exhibit and provides a professional environment for display.
Due to the large combined enrollment, we cannot possibly feature all of the students in the district. We simply do not have the space. Therefore, in my building I try to represent approximately 35-50 students per grade level in 2D work and 3D work. I do give each student in grades 1 &4 the opportunity to be represented. This is to ensure that each child, as he or she passes though grade school, is a part of the exhibit. Some students decide not to be a part of the exhibit for personal reasons.
Upon entering the exhibit viewers will notice that the work from each grade level and school is mixed together. This is to encourage the viewer to look at and enjoy all of the work created by our students. To assist in located work by school the viewer will find that work from our school is identified by a red star placed on the label.
Enjoy!
