Window Painting at McDonalds with 6th Grade

Here is our final window painting project at McDonald's.  I took 6-sixth grade students to McDonalds last week to decorate the windows for the holidays.  The owners, Chuck, LuAnn and Roy Jackson, are always so generous and kind to us.  They provided lunch for us in exchange for the the window painting.  What a great deal!  The kids love to paint the windows and always enjoy the lunch.  This is the highlight of their week!

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to get out in the public and do some good deeds for our community.

Here are the windows in progress and finished:

Thanks to Roy, LuAnn and Chuck Jackson and McDonalds!!!

  1. What kind of paint do you use? I've used tempera or acrylic with a small amount of dishsoap added, but I was wondering if anything cleans up better.
    Thanks!

  2. Hi Amy,
Just tempera. Although in the past we have had troubles with it flaking off. The newer paints seem to give me the most trouble. Maybe the dishsoap would help? I don't know....have you tried that? I never have to clean it up so I'm not sure about that....
I did order (for next year) the crayola window crayons. I am thinking this might make things a bit easier for me.

  3. The window crayons are great, but it would take a lot to fill in big areas. The soap works pretty well, as long as you don't add too much or you will end up with a lot of bubbles as you spread the paint. I cleaned it up using a straight razor and then just wiping the rest clean with rags.
